It's frustrating when your message recordings don't go as planned, whether your screen disappears or your recording gets cut short. This article provides best practices and troubleshooting steps to help you achieve clear, complete recordings every time.

1. Keeping Your Phone Screen On During Recording

If your phone screen turns off during a recording session (especially when using a web app in your browser), this is usually due to your phone's Auto-Lock or Screen Timeout settings, which are designed to save battery and secure your device.

  • For iPhones (iOS):

    1. Go to your iPhone's Settings app (the gear icon).

    2. Tap on Display & Brightness.

    3. Tap on Auto-Lock.

    4. Select a longer duration (e.g., 5 Minutes) or, if available and suitable for your security, choose "Never."

      • Important Note: Remember to set it back to a shorter duration after your recording session to save battery and enhance security.

    5. Also, check Settings > Battery and ensure Low Power Mode is toggled OFF while you are recording, as it can override Auto-Lock.

  • For Android Devices:

    1. Go to your Android phone's Settings app.

    2. Look for "Display," "Display & Brightness," or similar.

    3. Find "Screen timeout," "Screen off timeout," or "Sleep."

    4. Select the maximum available duration (e.g., 10 minutes or 30 minutes).

      • Note: Not all Android phones offer a "Never" option in standard settings.

    5. Check your Battery settings and disable any Battery Saver or Low Power Mode while recording, as these can force the screen off.

2. Troubleshooting Short Recordings (Around 30 Seconds)

Some customers, particularly those with Sprint / T-Mobile phone carriers, may experience their recordings being cut off at around 30 seconds. This is often related to modern cellular voice protocols.

  • Understanding VoLTE and HD Voice: This issue is frequently linked to Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and HD Voice. These modern protocols provide higher quality calls by using your 4G LTE data network. While beneficial, they can sometimes cause interruptions with external recording systems, especially as older 3G networks (which older devices still use) are being phased out.

  • Primary Solution: Use Our Alternate Call-In Numbers: We offer dedicated call-in numbers designed to bypass these VoLTE/HD Voice issues and allow you to record messages longer than 30 seconds.

    • For New CallingPost users, please call: 470-594-2968

    • For Classic CallingPost users, please call: 470-300-0517

  • Secondary Solution: Toggle VoLTE/HD Voice Feature (If Applicable): If the alternate call-in number doesn't resolve it, or as a preliminary step, we recommend trying to turn this feature off and back on again on your device.

    • On iPhone (iPhone 6 or newer):

      1. Tap Settings.

      2. Tap Cellular.

      3. Tap Cellular Data Options.

      4. Tap Voice & Data (shown on newer phones).

      5. Tap Enable LTE or toggle VoLTE off / then back on.

    • On Android Device (exact steps may vary by model and carrier):

      1. Tap Settings.

      2. Tap Network & Internet (or Connections/Mobile Networks).

      3. Tap Call (or Cellular networks/Enhanced Communications).

      4. Look for and toggle VoLTE / HD Voice / Enhanced calling off / then back on.

3. General Recording Best Practices (Regardless of Device/Carrier)

Several factors outside of CallingPost's control (like signal strength, phone storage, and cellular traffic) can influence recording quality and success.

  • Record from Message Library First (Recommended): We suggest starting your recording from the Message Library within your CallingPost account. Save your message there first, and then send it. This path often helps avoid issues encountered during live sending.

  • Quiet Environment: Record in a quiet space to minimize background noise interference.

  • Hold Phone Normally: If possible, avoid using speakerphone, as it can sometimes pick up more ambient noise or feedback.

  • Consistent Pacing: Try to maintain a consistent speaking pace to avoid long pauses that the system might misinterpret as the end of your message.

By understanding these factors and utilizing the suggested methods, you can significantly improve your message recording experience with CallingPost.
