What are Merge Tags?

Merge tags let you personalize your text messages by automatically inserting information from your contact lists. This allows you to create more personal and engaging messages for your audience.

Available Merge Tags:

CallingPost supports the following merge tags for text messages:

  • [First Name]

  • [Last Name]

  • [Phone Number]

  • [Email Address]

How to Use Merge Tags:

  1. Compose Your Message: Write your text message as you normally would.

  2. Insert Merge Tags: When you want to insert personalized information, simply type the corresponding merge tag within square brackets. For example, to include the recipient's first name, type [First Name].

  3. Preview Your Message: Before sending, preview your message to ensure the merge tags are working correctly and the information is being inserted as expected.

Example:

Let's say you're sending a message to a contact named "John Smith" with phone number "555-123-4567". Your message could look like this:

Hi [First Name], thanks for joining our rewards program! We're excited to offer you a special discount on your next purchase. Show this text message at checkout to redeem your discount.

When the message is sent to John, it will appear as:

Hi John, thanks for joining our rewards program! We're excited to offer you a special discount on your next purchase. Show this text message at checkout to redeem your discount.

Important Considerations:

  • Contact Information: Ensure that the contact information (first name, last name, etc.) is accurate and up-to-date in your contact list. If a field is blank for a contact, the merge tag will not display any information for that specific contact.

  • Character Limits: Remember that merge tags, like all text, count towards your character limit. Keep this in mind when crafting your messages.

  • Previewing: Always preview your messages before sending to confirm that the merge tags are working as intended.

Best Practices:

  • Use merge tags strategically to personalize key parts of your message.

  • Keep your message concise and focused, even with personalization.

  • Test your messages with a small group first to ensure everything is working correctly.
